• Question: are coco pops an unhealthy start to the day?

      Ooh breakfast questions has made me hungry!

      Eating Cocopops is better than eating nothing – because you really should have something to eat in the morning (especially if you’re off to school or work to use your brain!).

      But it’s not the healthiest of options…. things like porridge, whole-wheat cereals and whole-wheat bread will keep your blood sugar levels stable and prevent them dropping too much later. “Simple” carbohydrates (like Cocopops) give you quick fix of blood sugar so you’ll feel good for a short period of time. But the insulin your body produces to remove the sugar turns the extra sugar into fat, and then you “crash” and feel tired again.

      Most important message -don’t skip breakfast! If you do, your blood sugar level drops below the normal level so you’ll have cravings and low energy.

      When I saw this question I decided to have coco pops for breakfast today!

      I think it depends on how you use the word “unhealthy”. It is usually used to describe foods that are high in either sugar, salt or fat, but this is only because a lot of people eat too much of these things.

      As I mentioned in answer to a different question, almost everything is dangerous if you have too much of it. The body needs a certain amount of lots of different things to keep it working properly, too much can cause problems.

      It also depends on you and what you are going to be doing for the day, a very large man about to do a lot of exercise will need a lot more breakfast than a small girl planning to play videogames for the day!

      So I wouldn’t say coco pops are an unhealthy breakfast, but you need to be careful what you eat and make sure you are not having too much (or too little) of anything.

      I think it is fine to eat cocopops for breakfast but they are quite sugary so you wouldn’t want to eat too many other things during the rest of the day that are also very sugary. It’s all about having a balanced diet!
