The volume of Earth is 1.08 x (10 to the power of 12) km cubed… that’s 1.08 trillion cubic kilometers of rock and metal (ouch!).

It’s nearly 7 times as much volume as Mars.

The surface area of Earth is a HUGE 510,072,000 square km, 3.5 times as much as Mars.

      The mass of Earth is 5.97 x (10 to the power of 24) kg = 5,970,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg…..

Yeah that’s MASSIVE, and the same weight as A LOT of elephants!

      The Earth is massive!!

It is 24,901 miles around the Earth – that is one seriously long way!

It’s hard to think about stuff on that kind of scale isn’t it? One of the coolest things I’ve seen to look at different sizes of stuff is this:
      http://www.numbersleuth.org/universe/

It will take a little while to load, but then it will let you zoom in and out to look at the size of almost anything, from atoms to universes!

Another way to get an idea of what the numbers mean is to think about the longest distance you’ve walked or cycled, or even a long car journey you’ve been on, and then divide the circumference of the earth (40,075 km or 24,901 miles) into sections that long and see how long it would take you to travel all the way round it. Probably quite a long time!
