Zookeepers take care of wild animals in zoos and animal parks, by feeding them, taking care of their living areas. Ultimately they are responsible for keeping the animals healthy!

They need science to understand how the animals are behaving, to detect if they are sick, hurt or in distress. They watch and listen carefully to notice any changes in behaviour, so they have to scientifically keep notes about the animals and work with vets and other animal specialists. Zookeepers understand the physical AND mental well-being of animals.. they’re like psychiatrists and vets rolled ito one!

Zookeepers use a lot of Science in their job. For example they use information from Scientists (including vets) on health/disease and nutrition. They are also likely to use information from scientists who study animal behaviour.

They are also likely to use science in their breeding programmes too in order to make sure that animals don’t become extinct.
