So bacteria that cause food to go off need three key things in order to grow and survive: light, air and warmth. So cooling food down by using a freezer creates a not very good environment for bacteria to grow and therefore food will keep for longer.

Everything biological tends to slow down at very low temperatures. That’s why you might hear of things being cryogenically frozen. Some people even pay to be frozen if they have incurable diseases or something like that. They hope that when they are unfrozen in the future we will have developed the cure.

Unfortunately we don’t currently have the technology to successfully unfreeze people, so that will need to be developed as well as the cure to their disease!

Freezing food is brilliant, you can save food for longer and not have as much waste. It’s also a good way or slowing down or even killing off some bacteria. But some aren’t killed, so remember you have to treat frozen food the same as raw!
