Wee varies a lot in colour and doctors often use the colour of urine as a sign of some conditions and how well the kidneys are working.

It is possible that green wee is a sign of illness for example a kidney infection or liver disease.

However there are lots of other causes of green wee. For example various foods can also change the colour of our wee. For example if you eat a lot beetroot it will go pink. It is also possible if you eat lots of asparagus you can make your wee turn green.

Some medications can also change the colour of urine too, such as some antibiotics. These can also make wee smell really bad too 🙁

      Not always.

Things like diet and vitamin supplements can change the colour of your wee. SunnyD was found to turn people’s urine bright orange.. scary!

But it could be a sign of other more serious issues, so it’s always good to ask a doctor if it doesn’t go away – they just take a sample and send it off to a lab.. easy “pee”sy…

One major thing that affects the colour of your urine is the amount of water you’ve been drinking. I find that if I forget to drink enough during the day then mine is a very dark colour, but if I’ve been drinking loads then it looks like water!

A while ago I read “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” which is a true story about a man that gets trapped by a rock for five and half days with basically nothing to eat or drink. In the end he has to cut off his own arm to free himself, but before that he drinks his own wee to survive! He describes how it changes colour as he gets dehydrated (in a bit too much detail to be honest!).
