• Question: What is the most dangerous thing have you done using science?

      In my previous job we did a lot of work for the military, so a lot of the stuff we developed and tested was “dangerous”, including using high power lasers and firing rockets. But there is a lot of planning and preparation that goes on before any kind of test like that though, to make sure that no-one can possibly get hurt.

      Even in companies that do really dangerous things, most accidents are probably from people tripping in the corridor and similar!

      Unlike John, I’ve never worked with powerful stuff so the only dangerous things that have happened were accidents…

      I was working in a lab and sneezed very suddenly during my experiment – which made some acid touch some really really really hot glass which then exploded and sent little pieces of glass EVERYWHERE!

      Luckily I was wearing a lab coat, gloves, and had a screen in front of my face – phew!

      I set my school lab on fire once during chemistry – oops!
